What should I do in a dental emergency in Knightsbridge?

Here is advice for some of the more common dental emergencies that we see in patients from Knightsbridge, Pimlico, Belgravia and throughout London:

A knocked-out tooth

Make sure you call us for an emergency dental appointment as soon as possible. Saving a knocked-out tooth is time critical so the sooner you call us the better. If you have found the knocked-out tooth, keep it safe either inside your mouth or in a cup of cold milk to prevent it drying out and bring it with you to the emergency dentist. Pick up the tooth by the crown, not by the roots and don’t wash or handle the tooth too much. Take paracetamol if you are suffering with pain.

A chipped tooth

If your tooth suffers a chip or a fracture due to a trauma or injury, then you may need an emergency filling, crown or extraction. Your emergency dentist should be able to file down any uneven edges and replace missing parts of the chipped tooth with a tooth-coloured filling. If you are experiencing pain, try taking paracetamol and swilling your mouth in salt water can help too.

An abscess

If you experience any swelling to your face, gums or mouth then this may be due to a dental abscess. This is an infection which is inside the tooth pulp and will need immediate dental emergency treatment. Take paracetamol for any pain, do not lie flat but stay seated or upright until you get to the emergency dentist.
