Why do I need a denture?
Dentures are removable, discreet, and more far more common than people think. They are often used as a stop-gap solution between longer-term treatments such as dental implants or where other treatments like bridges are not possible.
What types of dentures are available?
We have numerous types of dentures to suit all kinds of situations. Dentures fall into two categories – full or partial dentures – and are selected depending on your needs. A partial denture is commonly used to complete the space and aesthetics of one or more missing teeth. When all of the teeth in an arch need replacing, a full denture is a likely option.
What are dentures made from?
There are several materials that dental laboratories can use for creating a denture. One frequently utilised material is Acrylic, used for its lightweight properties and creating bespoke tooth coloured shades. Another often used material is cobalt chrome, which makes the frame that the new teeth sit upon. These are thinner and generally more comfortable than all acrylic versions.
How long will it take to make them?
Depending on the type of denture you need, they may be made over a series of weekly visits (typically 4 or 5). The first two stages are for impressions or intraoral scans and to measure your bite for comfort. The third/fourth stage is a “try-in”. A wax mock-up is made to check the fit, bite, and most importantly, that you are happy with the appearance before getting the final denture made. The final stage is to fit the denture.
What should I expect when fitting a denture?
When you have your unique dentures fitted, we will ensure you are comfortable wearing them. We will check that you can bite correctly and understand how to care for your dentures to ensure longevity and maintain oral health. It is common for minor adjustments to be made at this stage.
